Kenya’s next doping case: Rengeruk banned for ten months

Kenyan track and field athlete Lilian Kasait Rengeruk has been banned from doping for ten months by the independent integrity committee AIU of the world association World Athletics.

The 25-year-old, twelfth at the 5000m Olympics in Tokyo 2021, admitted to taking a banned hormone drug (letrozole). It is the eighth doping penalty for Kenya’s track and field athletes since July.

Rengeruk’s positive sample was from January 20, the ban applies retrospectively from April 2022 to February 2023. Faced with the flood of positive tests, the Kenyan FA has taken a number of measures to deal with the problems.

“Athletics Kenya has strengthened its Intelligence and Investigation Unit with the aim of breaking up the cartels and taking the fight against doping to a new level,” the federation said in July.
