Tourism of Barcelona dismisses its director, Marian Muro, and seeks relief

Barcelona Tourism announced this Wednesday afternoon the dismissal of its current general director, Marian Muro, which will be relieved by another professional chosen from a company specialized in personnel selection.

In a statement, the consortium explains that it has convened its executive committee for this Friday as a preliminary step to General advice which will take place next week. The only point of the day will be the dismissal of Muro. This mixed body –created in 1993 by the Barcelona City Council, the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Barcelona and the Barcelona Promotion Foundation– aims to promote tourism in Barcelona and also integrates the private sector in the mission.

Tourism of Barcelona justifies the goodbye to what has been its director since February 2020 while it aims to “open a new stage in which to face the new challenges of the city, such as giving impetus to the digital strategy, reinforcing the international presence and updating and opening new marketing channels, reinforcing the links and complicity between the consortium and the associative fabric and the citizens of Barcelona to achieve objectives that are not only necessary but also shared by all”.

Muro had extensive experience in public administration, after her work as general director of Turisme de la Generalitat between 2011 and 2016, when she promoted public-private collaboration, among other challenges.

During her time in the consortium she has been very combative in defense of the international promotion of the cityhas led several missions abroad and his management has not been exempt from some tensions with the mayor Ada Colau due to their discrepancies about the sector.
