F-16 makes emergency landing at Ostend airport

The F-16 was hit by a lightning strike during its flight, and therefore had to make an emergency landing. “But it went smoothly,” says Tom Rutsaert of airport manager Egis. “The plane is still on the tarmac for inspection, then we will remove it from the runway.”

Flights diverted

Two flights that should have landed in Ostend have had to divert to Zaventem. Among those flights was also the plane carrying the Club Brugge player, who were returning from the Champions League match against Porto. There are passengers at the airport for flights that have yet to depart. When is still unclear.

The neighborhood is being asked to keep windows and doors closed because toxic substances were said to have been released during the emergency landing, but the airport cannot confirm this.
