VfL Bochum has a clear idea of what type of coach should follow Thomas Reis. “Of course we have a certain profile,” emphasized sports director Patrick Fabian in a media round on Monday. “It shouldn’t tend to be the classic fireman, but it shouldn’t be completely inexperienced either. He has to be aware of what he’s getting into,” said the 34-year-old. A name that the “WAZ“ brings into play is that of Dimitrios Grammozis. The coach has been without a club since leaving Schalke 04 in March.
According to the report, Grammozis should be a candidate at VfL. The 44-year-old, who was traded to Arminia Bielefeld last month, knows the club from playing as a reserve player in the 2012/13 season and from six years as a youth and assistant coach. He was on the bench at VfL in 2014/15 and 2016/17. It is said, however, that Bochum has not yet asked his ex-club Schalke, where his contract runs until 2023. Grammozis’ annual salary is currently said to be 1.8 million euros. VfL would be his third head coach position in the men’s division.
“We don’t set ourselves a time limit. We want to make the right decision as quickly as possible, taking all aspects into account,” said Fabian. “I think it can be attractive for a coach to turn things around here,” he said. Until further notice, U19 coach Heiko Butscher will step in as an interim solution. When asked if the 42-year-old could be on the sidelines until winter, Fabian replied that “nothing” was out of the question. “The team has a duty now. User “Juliencokono98” wrote: “Gisdol, Grammozis, Herrlich, Weinzierl, Slomka, Tedesco, Hütter, Beierlorzer are all free and I would give Gisdol the chance. Didn’t have it easy with Cologne back then either, but kept up the class.” On the other hand, “Schlawiner98” thinks that Weinziel will take over.
