Mudryk after Champions League gala: “Couldn’t say no to Arsenal”

Shakhtar homegrown

Shakhtar Donetzk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk (21) was one of the stars of matchday 1 of the Champions League. The much sought-after winger contributed a goal and two assists to the 4-1 win over RB Leipzig. In the summer, Bayer Leverkusen and FC Brentford failed with offers for the Ukrainian, who is under contract with his training club until the end of 2026. In an interview with “CBS Sports Golazo‘ he indicates a change.

“We’ll see in the winter. There was a lot of discussion about a transfer and rumors about interested clubs,” said Mudryk. When asked if he would like to play in the Premier League, he said: “Every player dreams of the Premier League.” When asked specifically about Arsenal, who are said to have already been in contact with him, the international said: “Me couldn’t say no to Arsenal but a transfer isn’t just my decision.”

Mudryk next talent for Gunners offensive? “I like how they play”

Reportedly, Shakhtar demanded €30m for his homegrown player in the summer – Bayer is said to have been unwilling to pay more than €20m. Instead, Leverkusen strengthened the flanks after the botched start of the season with the loan of Callum Hudson-Odoi (21) from Chelsea.

There can be no doubt that Arsenal have enough financial resources to pay €30m and Mudryk would fit well into coach Mikel Arteta’s attacking side. There, new signing Gabriel Jesus is the veteran at 25 – Arsenal’s nine attacking players are on average 22 years old. “Arsenal are a very good team with a very good coach. I like the way they play,” said Mudryk, who expects the biggest stage at Real Madrid on October 5th. In the previous season he was in the 1-2 defeat in the starting XI.

If 30 million euros actually flow into his transfer, Mudryk would be the third most expensive Ukrainian in football history after storm legend Andriy Shevchenko (45) and Arsenal newcomer Oleksandr Zinchenko (25). While it sounds like the 21-year-old is keen to take the next step in his career sooner rather than later, Mudryk made it clear just how important his club is to him. According to the recent market value update in Ukraine, he is Shakhtar’s most valuable player.
