Coach Sandro Schwarz hopes for a continuous upward trend after his Hertha premiere victory. “Results accelerate the development process. That’s why the result was extremely important,” said Schwarz in a media round after Monday’s training session.
The day before, the Berliners had celebrated their first win of the season 2-0 at FC Augsburg and had climbed to 13th place in the table with four points after five games.
The 43-year-old named the defensive stability of his team, which began with the active work of the three strikers, as a success factor.
Goalkeeper Oliver Christensen received special praise. The Dane was “as the eleventh field player with a mileage of 6.3 kilometers, often saving the team and standing high”.
At the same time, Schwarz warned that there was room for improvement in terms of winning the ball in future games. After Dodi Lukebakio’s lead (57th minute), his players had “one or the other chance to make it 2-0” and missed it.
Shortly before the end, the game could have tipped over before Marco Richter made everything clear with the second goal in added time.
The coach wants to forget about the victory itself: “The situation in the locker room changes shortly after the game. The morning feels better too, but from tomorrow the focus will be on Leverkusen.”
The factory club, which started extremely poorly with just one win and four defeats, will be welcomed by Hertha next Saturday in the Olympic Stadium (3.30 p.m. / Sky).
