“Russia today is trying to increase the pressure on Europe in terms of energy even more. For example, the transit of gas through the Nord Stream pipeline has been completely stopped,” Zelensky said. According to the president, Russia wants to “destroy the normal life of every European – in all countries of the continent”.

In this way, Russia would like to intimidate and weaken European countries. Moscow is fighting an energy war against Europe and wants to deal a “decisive blow” next winter, Zelensky said. According to him, the only way to counter this is to show more European unity.

In concrete terms, European countries should coordinate their countermeasures better and help each other more. In addition, the pressure on Russia must be increased to further reduce revenues from the sale of oil and gas.

With his accusations against Russia, Zelensky is taking advantage of the closure of the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. According to the energy company Gazprom, which is controlled by the Russian government, the intervention is necessary as a result of a leak, but little faith is given in Europe.

Next Friday, European energy ministers will meet in emergency session to discuss the energy crisis. In the meantime, we are also waiting for proposals from the Commission to try to keep the skyrocketing prices down.
