Reaction to Dest’s departure
What had become apparent during the day is now official: Hector Bellerín is returning to his youth club FC Barcelona. According to the transfer experts Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano the 27-year-old right-back has agreed with the Catalans on the contractual framework for cooperation. Both clubs confirmed the transfer during the night. His long-term employer FC Arsenal terminated the contract, which was valid until 2023, so that Bellerín can move to his native Spain free of charge. There he signed for a year, the mandatory release clause in Spain is 50 million euros.
Bellerín was on loan at Real Betis in 2021/22, making 32 appearances there and scoring five goals in them. For the “Gunners” the right-footed player was on the ball 239 times (nine goals, 29 assists). In recent days, Bellerín, who played in Barcelona’s youth squad between 2003 and 2011, has also been linked with Udinese and Sassuolo.
The Blaugrana react to the departure of Sergiño Dest by signing Bellerín. The 21-year-old joined AC Milan on loan. At the end of the season, the Italian champions have a purchase option said to be worth around €20m – pretty much the same amount Barça transferred to Ajax Amsterdam two years ago.
