FC Barcelona announces completion with a small puzzle: winger Adama Traoré (26) joins his training club, for which Barça may have to pay a hefty fee. First of all, there is an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers on a loan. Following this, the Spaniard with Malian roots is said to be expecting a long-term contract that has already been agreed. According to the club, the Blaugranes already pay the full salary.
Should the heavily indebted La Liga club finally exercise the option to buy Traoré in the summer – which is said to be non-binding – Barça would reportedly have to pay around €30m. The subsequent contract would be valid for up to five more years. For Traoré, who is under contract with the “Wolves” until 2023, it will be a comeback after six and a half years – not the first home-grown talent that the club is bringing back. He is considered a replacement for Ousmane Dembélé (24), who is to be sold in January.
With Fàbregas & Piqué: FC Barcelona brought these players back
Gerard Lopez | Joined Valencia on a free transfer in 1997 – came back in 2000 for €21.6m
In the summer of 2015, the then 19-year-old moved from Barça B to Aston Villa for €10m because he had little prospect of playing time at his training club. In the meantime, FC Barcelona – to put it bluntly – has gotten worse and Traoré better. On the island he made 237 appearances for Villans, Middlesbrough FC and Wolverhampton and collected 50 points.
