Mariah Carey wants to be the official Queen of Christmas.
Vocalist Mariah Carey is known, among other things, for his classic Christmas song All I Want For Christmas Is You, which last Christmas broke the billion listening mark on the streaming service Spotify. Carey’s album Merry Christmas is one of the best-selling Christmas albums of all time.
Now Carey wants to formalize her reputation as the number one Christmas singer. Information has become public that Carey has applied for a trademark for the title “Queen of Christmas” in March 2021. No decision has yet been made on the application.

BBC says that Mariah Carey’s intention to give herself a title has caused aggravation in other Christmas carolers.
From the one published in 1963 Baby Please Come Home – known for the hit Darlene Love81, says she was the “Queen of Christmas” even before Carey came into the limelight.

In December 2019, Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You topped the official US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the first time, even though it was originally released back in 1994 and has been heavily consumed by Christmas enthusiasts ever since.

This summer it was reported that Carey was being sued over the title of the song. Vince Vance and the Valiants released the song of the same name in 1989 Andy Stone claimed that Carey knowingly, intentionally and purposefully copied the name in order to benefit from the reputation of the previously released song.
Stone is seeking $20 million in damages for copyright infringement.
The songs have different lyrics and melodies, and they don’t resemble each other more than their names.
