‘FBI sought documents about nuclear weapons from Trump’ | Abroad

In Monday’s raid, FBI agents were looking for classified documents about nuclear weapons. That reports a source well-versed about the FBI investigation to the Washington Post. It is not known what kind of documents are involved, or whether the documents contain information about US or foreign nuclear weapons. It is also not yet possible to say whether the documents sought have been found.

The New York Times spoke to a well-known source who says the investigation also focused on top-secret documents. According to this source, it would be information from “the highest possible secret category.” Materials were sought from what are called the ‘special access programs’, which contain details of extremely sensitive operations carried out by the US abroad. This information is classified one step higher than top secret, the source reports.

Several agencies within the US government that deal with national security and counterintelligence are said to have been concerned about the documents. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort is known to be difficult to secure. The president lives in a private club that hosts hundreds of guests every day during the season. Secret information would be an easy target for spies there.

The raid on Trump’s house sparked a lot of criticism from Trump and his Republican allies. They demanded more information about the action. It is very rare for a house to be searched on a former president. Trump sees the raid as a politically motivated attack by the Democrats.

Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday asked the judge to release the search warrant of the raid. The judge has asked Trump to let us know before 9 p.m. Dutch time on Friday evening whether he also approves of this. Trump also has the order himself, but did not make it public of his own accord.
