Neighbor woke up from casino robbery: ‘I heard panic’

Yolanda was woken up by a lot of noise around two o’clock on Saturday night. “I heard someone screaming in panic, ‘Police, police!’.” Her two dogs started barking and kept barking. When Yolanda went downstairs to look, it turned out that there was an attempt to rob the Flash Casino on Paardenstraat in Hilvarenbeek across the street.

Around closing time, two men in dark clothes tried to rob the casino. They approached an employee who was just about to close the business. The employee managed to keep them off by waving a bag. As a result, the men fled.

“There is often something happening in the street here.”

Yolanda woke up from all the commotion. She heard the casino employee screaming for help. “I thought, what’s going on?” She didn’t hesitate for a moment and went downstairs to take a look. Once downstairs, she saw the police and a security car pulling into the street. The robbers had already left by then. The police quickly blocked off the street for a neighborhood search. It is not yet known whether this has yielded any results in the search for the identity of the robbers.

Yolanda has lived in Paardenstraat for 25 years, opposite the casino. She sits on a post opposite the casino and calmly tells her story. She is not very upset with the commotion. “Things often happen in the street here. There used to be a jeweler here. There was once a ram raid there,” she recalls. The casino is also said to have been robbed more than once. The casino employee escaped unharmed.
