Bayern Munich | Hasan Salihamidzic admits “mistakes” in the early days

After a strong transfer summer, sports director Hasan Salihamidzic does not feel any pressure regarding his contract with German record champions Bayern Munich, which expires in 2023.

“As far as my future is concerned, I’m relaxed. I notice how respect towards me is changing,” said Salihamidzic in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”.

He believes, said Salihamidzic, that he now forms “a very good team” with CEO Oliver Kahn and President Herbert Hainer. Salihamidzic is waving a contract extension in Munich, after difficult years he had attracted attention this summer with the commitments of the stars Sadio Mané and Matthijs de Ligt.

His early days at Bayern were “not easy”, he “made mistakes” and “burned his fingers here and there”, emphasized the 45-year-old: “First I had to find my place between Kalle Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß. Restructuring the team was complicated, then the pandemic hit. It was all part of a growth process.”

But above all the “unobjective and personal” part of the criticism of his person hurt, said Salihamidzic. In the meantime, however, he is happy about his new standing in the club, Hainer recently attested him an “excellent job”.

The mood “turned” after the transfers, says Salihamidzic, who is therefore firmly eyeing a contract extension: “I love Munich, it’s my city, my children were born here, my family lives here.”
