During an appearance on the show “Triple J Like a Version,” Glass Animals covered Destiny’s Child’s song “Say My Name.” They also played a shortened version of “Heat Waves”. The performances took place as part of the Splendor in the Grass Festival in Australia.
The band turned the 1999 R’n’B hit into a happy nu-raver with electronic drums, high basses and booming synths. Singer Dave Bayley took on the legendary verses of BeyoncĂ©, technically manipulating his singing and shifting its pitch.
“Triple J” Live Sessions: Glass Animals, Wet Leg and Co.
“Triple-J” is best known for its cover versions with the “Like a Version” series, which are broadcast on their youth radio and published on their YouTube channel. In addition to Glass Animals, indie rock duo Wet Leg played a session for Triple-J. Earlier this month they presented a cover of “Smoko” – a song by Australian punk band The Chats.
During her performance, Rhian Teasdale even wore speed dealer sunglasses – a nod to The Chats frontman Eamon Sandwith. In an interview, Wet Leg’s Hester Chambers said, “The chats are a beacon of joy and fun and not-taking-too-seriously in a serious world”.
Glass Animals announced in early July an intimate London show at the Village Underground on August 25 to re-launch 2020’s album DREAMLAND. In 2020 they presented the first excerpts from the record. Bailey said the show is a good opportunity to “realize some of the things that we originally planned to do.”
