No European Championships “at home” for gymnast Marcel Nguyen: Due to another knee injury, the former European parallel bars champion cannot go to the apparatus at the European Championships from August 11th to 21st in Munich. The 34-year-old from Unterhachinger officially declared this on Friday.
“I’m very frustrated because I’ve invested a lot in the last three years. Now I have to clear my head for a few days,” said Nguyen, who has also been an ambassador for Munich 2022 in recent months. However, according to the 2012 Olympic silver medalist, it is still a goal to experience the 2024 Summer Games in Paris as an athlete.
Doubts remain, because Nguyen had already been injured for the 2019 home World Cup in Stuttgart and the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. His last international medal success – EM bronze on parallel bars – is now six years ago.
