Former professional Kevin Visser is very disappointed with farewell to FC Volendam: “Does not deserve the beauty prize”

“My daytime activities are now completely devoted to my son and I won’t be going to work until January,” Kevin Visser tells NH Sport. In the past six years he played for FC Volendam and the promotion to the Eredivisie would be a wonderful end to a great period. Only Visser has a very unpleasant feeling about his farewell. “It doesn’t deserve the beauty prize.”

Commercial function

At the end of March, Visser was told that there was no future at FC Volendam. Partly due to a cruciate ligament injury that the playmaker from Rotterdam sustained two years ago, he had to watch from the side much more often than he would have liked. Still, with sixteen games, Visser still played an important role in the promotion of The New Orange. He then thought about a social career and FC Volendam jumped in handy. A job in the commercial department at the premier divisionist and that seemed like something to Visser. “In this way I was able to contribute to the development of the club, because I have a very warm heart for FC Volendam.” Unfortunately for Visser, it remained with that conversation, because what followed was radio silence to this day. “Now I am comfortable with nothing. I understood that some people would rather not see me at the club anymore.”

That thought was also confirmed at the end of last season. Visser was not allowed to train with Wim Jonk’s team in the last week. “Supposedly they already wanted to train with the new team for the upcoming season. This feels very wry. I hope the responsible people at Volendam will scratch their heads about this. I will not name names, because I prefer to keep the credit to myself. I’m really disappointed because I gave everything for the club for six years.”

Visser now plays in the red and black of AFC. The Amsterdam club of the Zuidas plays in the second division. “It goes very well. The level of football is very high with many former professionals. Only we train less often than professional football clubs, otherwise this team can join the left row of the first division.”

New challenge

“I’m open to everything,” says Visser when it comes to his social future. “I put out a call on LinkedIn that I was ready for a new challenge. Then I received a lot of messages. From construction companies to recruitment offices. I go everywhere and see what suits me.”

First, Visser enjoys his little Joa and is on the field at AFC several times a week. He does not know how long the 34-year-old midfielder will continue to play football. “I am a fan and try to play as long as possible. That can be one season, but also four years.”
