Increasing demand for electricity: can our network handle this?

On January 1, 2022, 8.9 million cars were registered in the Netherlands, either electric or powered by fossil fuels. If only electric cars can be made from 2030 and there may be 9 million electric cars driving around in the long term, this means an energy demand comparable to 90 million households. If they are all charged at the same time, there is a huge peak in the demand for power. Our network is not designed for that, so measures are now being taken to meet the high demand in the future – especially if companies also require a lot of power.
