LIV Golf plans league with 14 events

Even more events, even more prize money: The controversial LIV Golf series is planning a league with 14 events for 2023. This was announced by the tournament series supported by Saudi Arabia on Wednesday. Accordingly, 48 players and twelve teams will fight for prize money totaling 405 million US dollars, and the season will culminate in a big matchplay final. This year the series started with eight tournaments.

The events of the LIV series should not collide with major tournaments, international team events and heritage events. “LIV Golf’s expanding global platform will add a new dimension to the golf ecosystem as we know it. A dimension that offers players and fans around the world the opportunity to realize the true potential of our beloved sport,” said organizer Greg Norman.

The invitation tour, financed with billions from the Saudi state fund, is dividing the golfing world. The professional association PGA has excluded all LIV participants from their competitions. In addition to the former world number one Martin Kaymer (Mettmann), this also applies to US star Phil Mickelson.

The third tournament of this year’s LIV series starts on Friday in Bedminster (New Jersey).
