In addition to the daily Today Inside on SBS 6, Wilfred Genee will also present a football talk show twice a week on Veronica. “It will not be Studio Voetbal.”
The men of VI were seen twice a week on Veronica for years, but they started their daily talk show on SBS 6 in January. They left a gap on the old nest, but Wilfred Genee is now going to fill it with three other experts: Andy van der Meijde, Wesley Sneijder and Wim Kieft.
Wilfred wants himself
Wilfred suggested it himself, he tells The Telegraph. “The funny thing was: when we made that switch in January, I said to Marco Louwerens in December: ‘Let that time slot well on Veronica, because we have always played football there and for the regular viewer that is still recognizable.’”
He continues: “I said: ‘Then you just make an hour and then you continue with the other program with Johan, René and the undersigned. I have to go that way anyway, so I can do it on Veronica.’ That was not done then, but it has always remained dormant for a lot of people.”
Mix of everything
It will not be a copy of the old Today Inside, according to Wilfred. “You can only make one program called VI and you can make it with Johan and René. They are irreplaceable. I don’t think you can ever get what chemistry the three of us have. It kind of feels that way.”
He continues: “It will be a football talk show, but not Studio Voetbal. It’s going to be a bit of a mix of everything. You can’t imitate or imitate a program and you shouldn’t want to. You have to try to find your own style a bit and you have other people for that.”
Andy and Wesley
What does he think of the new football analysts Andy and Wesley? “So a few weeks ago I was asked if I wanted to do that football talk show again that I had called myself and how I felt it would be with Wesley and Andy. I said, ‘That sounds like a good plan.’”
He continues: “I think Wesley is smart enough to express himself and Andy has more than enough television experience, including as an interviewer now on his car show. We also did Wesley in De Oranjezomer once and he did that perfectly.”

The new football talk show on Veronica starts on Monday 15 August at 8.30 pm. An hour later, the new season of Today Inside starts on SBS 6.
Is Wilfred not afraid of doubles when it comes to football? “That will certainly happen, but I think the approach of Johan and René is very different from that of Andy and Wesley.”
