Tour leg halted after protests

After the heat battle in the Pyrenees, the 19th stage of the tour was again on flatter terrain. The drivers were forced to stop early on.

Professional cyclist Christophe Laporte ensured the first French day victory of this year’s Tour de France on the 19th stage.

The 29-year-old from Team Jumbo Visma saved a narrow lead over the peloton after 188.3 km in Cahors as part of a three-man breakaway. Second was the Belgian Jasper Philipsen ahead of Alberto Dainese from Italy.

Jonas Vingegaard was able to take it easy on Friday. On the way to his first overall victory in the Tour of France, the 25-year-old Dane goes into the decisive individual time trial on Saturday with a lead of 3:26 minutes over defending champion Tadej Pogacar.
