“During a stay abroad we discovered hand-embroidered kaftans from Uzbekistan, fell in love, bought them and wore them. When we were repeatedly asked about it, we thought – why don’t we make something out of it?” says Luise Evers, who actually works as a journalist.

Together with her friend Ann-Kathrin Barthel, she bought ten and founded “Kapara”.

“Then we came up with the idea of pimping the kaftans with colorful silk for the inner lining,” she says. Red, yellow, green: Buyers can now also choose the color of the Habotai silk inner lining: “We still have to set that up in the shop – but you can also just send us an email”.

The one-of-a-kind pieces are tailored from locally woven cotton and hand-embroidered, with the patterns sketched in advance with a pencil. One part costs 440 euros. “In return you support a traditional craft and have a beautiful unique piece for decades,” says Luise.

And where to wear kaftans? “Actually everywhere, whether in the office or privately, on the beach or at a civil wedding,” she says.

It has one size and fits from S to L and sits casually. More patterns and colors are planned, and there will soon be a pop-up shop. www.kaparakaftan.com
