Red Bull disappointed in practice on Friday at Silverstone. The drivers see some problems and issue warnings ahead of Sunday’s race.
After fourth place for Max Verstappen and seventh place for Sergio Perez in the second practice session at Silverstone, Red Bull is struggling with a few difficulties. The changeable conditions of wet and dry ground on Friday caused problems for the racing team.
In the second practice session the ground was mostly dry, but the team couldn’t drive at the front as usual. Sergio Perez is therefore quoted as follows in “Motorsport Magazin”: “It wasn’t a great session for us today. Compared to our preparations and the simulator, we’re still miles away.” The Mexican continued: “We appreciate that there’s something going on that we need to understand. We’re a bit behind. We need to understand what’s going on.”
Verstappen and Perez had their difficulties, especially in the curves. Team boss Helmut Marko: “We can’t find the right balance, have understeer and oversteer, too little grip in the slow corners.”
German drivers disappoint
Far better for Ferrari. Carlos Sainz set the fastest lap. On Friday, the Spaniard relegated record winner Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes to second place by a margin of 0.163 seconds. Third was McLaren driver Lando Norris.
The practice laps for the two German drivers were not very promising. Sebastian Vettel did not get past twelfth place in the Aston Martin. He had to take a longer break because of a damaged underbody. Mick Schumacher returned to his Haas team’s garage second to last.
