Review: Coheed And Cambria :: Vaxis II: A Window Of The Waking Mind

Coheed And Cambria took an unusually long time to send their nerd adventure with VAXIS II: A WINDOW OF THE WAKING MIND to the next round. The start of the Vaxis storyline is almost four years behind us, with which they now manage without their eponymous protagonists. A story that will accompany us again for five albums. Which you can only really follow if you own, listen to and read all the albums and the novels that accompany the deluxe editions. What a wet dream for all marketing people.

With so much input and trappings, you almost forget that music is still hidden somewhere under this gigantic superstructure. This upsets some defenders of the prog rock game. But in contrast to other prog stuff that thinks it’s smarter and only yawns on repeating the formulas of 50 years ago, Coheed And Cambria find their own, progressive approach, which is more appropriate to the word. In the mixture of design, science fiction story, excessive pathos, bombastic arrangements and the addition of the most diverse genres such as pop, punk, post-hardcore and alternative rock, a largely entertaining bubblegum prog rock is formed.
