The thermometers are scratching the 30-degree mark both in the Alpine republic and in German regions; life moves outdoors. So it is probably the irony of history that Nino from Vienna is releasing his tenth solo album EIS ZEIT right now, on June 24th. The pieces bundled on it can be read as a chronicle of suffering over the past two years of the epidemic. They tell of isolation, longing, curfews, loneliness, boredom – but also of hope.
“As if it had been a Corona concert without an audience”
The singer-songwriter wrote all the titles during the corona pandemic “to capture this not particularly inspiring time,” as he announced on Facebook. The record was recorded in a cultural center in Burgenland: “The album was recorded quickly, in the Cselley Mühle, everything live. Sung live, played live. As if it had been a Corona concert without an audience. It is the first and probably only and last Nino aus Wien album on which each song is under 4 minutes,” says the announcement.
In contrast to his previous full-length player OCKER MOND, you can hear Nino’s band playing music again on EIS ZEIT. Perhaps Raphael Sas, David Wukitsevits and pauT are more present than ever in his almost 15-year career. This results in the logical sound pattern: rock > folk.
You never have to be afraid
Nino from Vienna has also released a music video for what is probably the most beautiful of the twelve pieces called “Glücksbringer”. In it, Matthias Ofenböck uses his visualization to transform a plant painted by the musician into a colorful kaleidoscope. The song is an ode to a (possibly metaphorical) flower that serves as a talisman in all the turmoil of life. And it is able to take away one’s fear – as tired as the voice, as dull as the senses, so zach life is too.
