Horner impressed by Verstappen: ‘He is in the shape of his life’ | NOW

Christian Horner is impressed by what Max Verstappen showed during the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday. The Red Bull Racing team boss saw the world champion drive clear to another victory.

Verstappen was involved in a battle with Carlos Sainz after a safety car in the final phase. The Ferrari driver drove within DRS distance of the Dutchman, but failed to really attack.

“Max is in the form of his life and the team is doing great too. Carlos drove very well today and put a lot of pressure, but Max was very cool. It was very impressive,” said Horner after the 26th Grand Prix win from Verstappens career.

In the exciting final rounds, communication between the Red Bull team and Verstappen was no longer possible. “It was a one-way street. He could hear us, but we couldn’t hear him,” said Horner. “But I don’t think he even really needed our comment.”

Horner wary of race at Silvestone

Verstappen further expanded his dominance in the World Cup with his sixth win of the season. The Red Bull driver is now 46 points ahead of teammate Sergio Pérez and 49 points ahead of Charles Leclerc.

Pérez had a disappointing race in Montreal by dropping out, while the Ferrari driver had to make do with fifth place. The Monegask had started from last place due to a grid penalty.

Despite the big lead, Horner doesn’t count himself rich yet. The team boss thinks that in two weeks, when the tenth Grand Prix of 2022 is on the program at Silverstone, it could be difficult.

“That circuit should be Ferrari, just like in Barcelona. And I have heard that they are going to make updates,” he said. “Mercedes was also very fast today, so we have to take that into account at Silverstone.”
