For Mick Schumacher, the best starting position of his Formula 1 career ended in disappointment.
The German was unable to capitalize on his sixth starting position at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal and retired with a technical defect after just 20 laps.
At the time of the retirement, he was comfortably seventh in the points and could have scored the first points of his career. But in turn eight, his Haas suddenly went on strike and Schumacher parked his car in the run-off zone, which made the virtual safety car necessary.
“Of course it’s an unpleasant feeling in this case, because we had the pace to drive P5, it looks like,” he said angrily.
He also doesn’t know exactly what’s broken on the Haas – either the MGU-K or the MGU-H. “One of those components broke completely, which is why I had this abrupt stop as a result,” he explains. “We had to stop the car because otherwise more would have broken.”

The good starting positions five and six did not bring Haas any luck. Because Kevin Magnussen also dropped out of the points early because he had a damaged front wing after a collision with Lewis Hamilton on the first lap and was called to the pits by race control.
Nevertheless, Schumacher takes a lot of positive things from Montreal. Because he still has the successful qualifying with grid position six and also a good pace at the weekend.
“We’ve already shown that we have what it takes to finish in the points. I think today would have been the day. Another day.”
