Missed the start of the season

New coach Enrico Maassen cannot plan with Rubén Vargas for the start of his first season at Bundesliga club FC Augsburg. The 23-year-old Switzerland international suffered a left thigh injury before his country’s Nations League game in Portugal.

In an interview with the “Augsburger Allgemeine”, FCA manager Stefan Reuter spoke of “a serious muscle injury” that Vargas had suffered. “It’s very upsetting for him and for us. He will be absent for a number of weeks and may miss most of the preparations,” said Reuter.

The FCA professional squad will start preparing for their twelfth season in the top German division under Maassen next Monday. The Augsburgers will play their first competitive game on July 31 in the first round of the DFB Cup at the Lower Saxony Oberliga side Blau-Weiss Lohne. The Bundesliga season begins a week later.
