The Berlin fire brigade performed almost half a million operations last year to provide assistance, provide medical care and fight fires.

With exactly 492,226 missions, this was the highest number so far despite the corona pandemic, as fire chief Karsten Homrighausen said on Thursday when the annual balance sheet was presented. In the past two years, the numbers have been between 470,000 and 480,000.

Paramedics, emergency doctors or fire extinguishers were called out every 64 seconds. Mostly it was about emergency operations (around 446,000). Fires only had to be extinguished in a fraction of the alarms (6843).

The fire brigade received well over a million emergency calls (1,095,932). Every 29 seconds, the phones rang to the number 112. The fact that this number is twice as high is due to the fact that too many accidents and emergencies usually involve several emergency calls, and there are also false alarms.
