Bill Gates is totally against NFTs and is also quite skeptical of cryptocurrencies
In an interview about climate change, he was quite clear in his position on these issues.
the tech tycoon Bill Gates has called NFTs “based on the dumbest theory”. That is, a financial concept based on assets being overvalued as long as there is a “fool” who wants to buy them and another who wants to sell them. At an event on climate change organized by TechCrunch, Gates explained that prefers to invest in tangible issuessuch as farms, factories or companies that are physical.
“I’m not into it. I’m neither long-term nor short-term interested in any of these things.” He also assured that “They served to avoid taxes and any type of rule” so they were pure speculation”.
Gates even allowed himself to joke around by criticizing the Bored Apes Yacht Club, the NFT’s flagship project according to The Verge: “Obviously expensive digital images of monkeys are going to improve the world immensely,”
This is not the first time that Gates has expressed his skepticism about cryptocurrencies. In a February 2021 interview, he worried about the dangers of mainstream investors buying Bitcoin, especially when the value of the cryptocurrency was so volatile and could be plunged by a tweet from a prominent investor, like Elon Musk.
