The Rolling Stones concert that would take place on Monday evening in the Johan Cruijff ArenA is cancelled. Singer of the band Mick Jagger suddenly tested positive for corona. That reports organizer Mojo. The 78-year-old Jagger left the stadium sick at the beginning of the evening. The first concert visitors had already arrived there.
The band writes in a statement that they are “deeply sorry” that they have to move the concert, “but the safety of the public, the other musicians on stage and the crew must be a priority”. A Mojo employee took the stage, according to Reuters news agency, to tell those in attendance that Jagger “is unable to sing or play.”
The Rolling Stones write that tickets for the performance will be valid for a catch-up show. Mojo is also talking about a new date for the concert, which will be announced later. Amsterdam was the fourth stop on the Stones SIXTY tour, in honor of the band’s sixtieth anniversary. They perform fourteen times in ten European countries in June and July. The next performance is scheduled for next Friday, June 17, in Bern, Switzerland. It has not yet been announced whether that concert can take place.
About 53,000 tickets were available for the performance in the ArenA. In March they sold out within five minutes, reported RTL News at the time. It has been five years since The Rolling Stones were last in the Netherlands. Then they performed in the ArenA and the GelreDome.
