Start moves backwards
The information has just come that the 3rd training session will start with a delay. In the previous Formula 2 race, there was a major crash in the closing stages and the track still needs repairs.

What’s up for Vettel?
Things didn’t go much better for Aston Martin, although the initial situation gave at least a little more reason for hope. Sebastian Vettel, who usually does well in Baku, ended Friday in eleventh place. Lance Stroll finished 13th behind Lewis Hamilton and ahead of Daniel Ricciardo.

Schumacher braked by defect
The Haas team should also be looking. Mick Schumacher was barely able to drive in the first practice session after a defect and then found himself in 19th place on the results list in the afternoon. Teammate Kevin Magnussen didn’t fare much better with 17th place either. Another midfield team is likely to be similarly dissatisfied. Alfa Romeo with Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou also struggled badly and found themselves well behind the top ten.

Mercedes struggles with bouncing
Mercedes is once again struggling with the balance of the car in Baku. A few cars jumped visibly on the long straight, but the problem was particularly pronounced with the Silver Arrows. The competitors in midfield once again put a lot of pressure on. Fernando Alonso in particular in the Alpine can look back on a good Friday. For the Spaniard it was in the top 5.

Leclerc with the best Friday
On Friday it was Charles Leclerc who delivered the best performance in Baku. The Ferrari driver finished second in practice 1 before taking the lead with a clear lead in practice 2. How much that is worth will only become clear today, because some of his pursuers were unlucky on their fast laps and did not manage to complete a clean lap on the soft after many short yellow phases. Among them was Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz, who couldn’t improve at all on the soft and was fifth on the medium lap.
