With the expected high temperatures at the weekend, the risk of forest fires in Brandenburg is increasing again.
“The situation has not eased in the past few days, and the danger increases even more with increasing solar radiation,” said forest fire protection officer Raimund Engel on Friday.
He reported 162 fires since the beginning of the season.
Engel expected further fires in forest areas, but no “extreme situation”. According to him, the danger levels will be between 3 and 4. According to the Ministry of the Environment, the second highest forest fire risk level 4 applied in the districts of Prignitz and Havelland on Friday, and level 3 in six districts. Risk level 2 was issued for the other districts.
The wildfire season has 214 days. According to Engel, the highest danger level 5 applies on average for 10 to 20 days. The levels are calculated on the basis of precipitation, humidity, wind speed and temperature, among other things. Two forest fire control centers in Brandenburg monitor events from danger level 3. In addition to Zossen in the south, there is the Eberswalde (Barnim) location.
