Bluebells, yarrow, poppies. More and more colorful meadows inspire Berlin. Because wild bees find a home on the flower strips.
From 2019 to May, 71 flowering areas were laid out in the city instead of a short-mowed lawn. 43,000 square meters in all districts, from the Tiefwerderweg in Spandau to the König-Luise-Straße in Zehlendorf or the Springpfuhlpark in Marzahn.
“With the project ‘More bees for Berlin – Berlin is blooming’, we are implementing one of the most important building blocks of Berlin’s strategy for biological diversity,” said Green MP Turgut Altug (57).

Ten of the flowering areas were examined as an example, and 1100 bees were detected.
They belonged to 103 species – that is 43 percent of the approximately 240 wild bee species currently occurring in Berlin. Eleven of them are on the Red List of Threatened Species.
