After almost ten years, a men’s sprint relay has set a German record over the 4×100 m and thus made a strong statement.

Kevin Kranz (Wetzlar), Joshua Hartmann (Cologne), Owen Ansah and Lucas Ansah-Preprah (both Hamburg) ran to victory at the Sparkasse Gala in Regensburg in 37.99 seconds, beating the previous record by three hundredths of a second.

The strong performance of the sprinters is a pointer towards the best in the world: the Germans were the only relay team to stay under the 38-second mark this year. They presented themselves in top form before the start of the World Championships in Eugene, USA (July 15th to 24th).

The previous German record had stood since July 27, 2012, set by a relay team led by former German top sprinter Julian Reus.
