The attack on a second-hand clothing market killed 32 people and injured 110 others. A first suicide bomber detonated his belt amid the market vendors on Tayaran Square, after which the emergency services gathered at the scene of the violence to take care of the victims. At that moment, a second jihadist blew himself up.
During the investigation into the attack, the IS leader confessed to being a member of the terror group since 2012. He is said to have planned the attack and equipped the two kamikazes.
The last IS attack in Iraq took place in July 2021. Then the terror group targeted a market in the Shia district of Sadr City. About thirty people were killed in this.
