The Spanish Fernando Alonso (Alpine), double Formula One world champion, who registered eighth in the free practice time table for the Monaco Grand Prix, the seventh in the World Cup, said this Friday in the principality of the Costa blue that “Achieving a good position on the grid is paramount” this weekend.
“Monaco is always different to other tracks as you need to find confidence in your car.commented the double Asturian world champion, who achieved two of his 32 victories in the premier class on this track -the most iconic in the World Cup: in 2006, when he revalidated the title, with Renault; and a year later, with McLaren.
“The first free practice was somewhat complicated for us, but in the second things started to ‘beep’ in my car”said Fernando, 40, who has just starred in the day’s comeback last Sunday in Montmeló (Barcelona), where, after changing engine, he started last and finished ninth.
“There are still things to come as we experience an inconsistent balance here and there that we still need to correct,” Alonso said in Monte Carlo on Friday.
“Likewise, we have to try to understand a little more the behavior of the tires with a view to qualifying, since achieving a good position on the grid is obviously the main issue this weekend,” said the brilliant Asturian driver.
“There is work to be done, but it is always special to drive here; with a lot of adrenaline on every lap”, Alonso said after setting the eighth time on the first day of free practice for the Monaco Grand Prix.
