Russia intends to put about 50 new Sarmat-type super-missiles into service by the end of autumn. This was announced by space agency chief Dmitri Rogozin (58) on Sunday.
The first units of the intercontinental missiles are to be stationed in the Siberian region of Krasnoyarsk. The region’s capital of the same name should be known to hit fans in particular: singer Helene Fischer (37) was born there.
At the end of April, Russia carried out a test launch with a Sarmat (NATO code name: SS-X-30 Satan 2) at the Plessetzk spaceport in northern Russia.
The missile has a range of 18,000 kilometers and can be equipped with nuclear warheads. This means that Russia can use it to attack both the North and South Poles and reach targets worldwide.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the missile will massively strengthen Russia’s nuclear potential. No previously known rocket can reach targets at such a distance as this one, it said during the rocket test.
