Worries remain with Hurry-Up after home defeat

HANDBALL – At 22-24 it looked like it would be for a while, but by losing 24-27 to the leader of the HandbalNL League Volendam Hurry-Up remains in danger of relegation.

At halftime the difference was no less than eight (10-18). Also at 17-23 a point seemed far away for the formation of Joop Fiege. Thanks to goals from Ronald Suelmann and Sverre Jansen, Hurry-Up still had some hope.

Fiege’s team is suddenly tense due to a points penalty. Hurry-Up does not meet a number of license conditions, as a result of which the Dutch Handball Association has deducted the Zwartemeerders four points. Result: the last place for Hurry-Up, which results in relegation to the premier league after ten rounds.

Hurry-Up still couldn’t use the injured Erik Blaauw against Volendam. In the first forty-five minutes, the orange shirts made a tense impression and many mistakes were made. Because Volendam also started to play sloppy, Jansen and associates could do something about the score. “The good phase came too late,” said the three-time goalscorer.

Hurry-Up remains last in the HandbalNL League with minus one point. Competitor Quintus is fifth with zero points. Jansen about the points penalty: “We only heard about it as a group on Monday and then you have to come back from last place with three games to go. That is quite tough. There is a lot of pressure.”

Hurry-Up will play at home again in a week. Then it has to happen against Bevo that has already been played out in the title fight. “Hurry-Up belongs in the BENE-League”, concludes Jansen. “We’re going to do everything we can to play it safe.”
