Cannes Film Festival: the films to see on Sunday 22

Lhe journalist Rahimi (Tsar Amir Ebrahimi) goes to the Iranian holy city of Mashhad to investigate a serial killer convinced, clearing the streets of sinners by killing prostitutes, to do God’s work.

Holy Spider

As the death toll increases and Rahimi gets closer to exposing his crimes, the opportunity to get justice becomes more and more difficult as the “Spider Killer” is hailed by many as a hero. Starting from true story of serial killer Saeed Hanaei, Ali Abbasi (the author of Border) engages, with Holy Spider, the first of two films competing today, with detective thriller. A bold indictment of a society where the brutality of justice is routine.

Les Amandiers

Les Amandiers by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi tells of a world that the director knows well, the theater school where she was educated at the end of the 80s. Three in their twenties: Stella, Etienne and Adèle enter the school of the Théâtre des Amandiers in Nanterreinstitution where Patrice Chéreau reigns supreme.

Olivier Assays also goes back to the past, to the film he made in 1996 from which today he has drawn a series with the same title, Irma Vepwhere Alicia Vikander takes over from Maggie Cheunglegendary Hong Kong actress whom Assayas then married, with whom he made another film, Cleanin 2004 and from which he finally separated. Comedian Vincent Macaigne, generally irresistible in his beaten dog mode in the series he plays the director (in crisis) struggling with the shooting of the film within the film.
