Ostend under the spell of maritime heritage
The docks are full and the first ship enthusiasts showed up this morning. For many a nice reunion because the festival could not go on for two years.
By the weekend it will be on the heads. Bart Tommelein, mayor and alderman for tourism Ostend: “It is in the DNA of the city. It is maritime. It emphasizes the rough character of the sea and everything that has to do with the sea, the skippers and the fishermen. Very beautiful, both for the inhabitants of Ostend and for the people who come to visit the event.”
According to the organizers of Ostend at Anchor, you should start the visit behind the station. “That’s where the largest ships lie. ‘Le Francais’ that comes for the first time. The Belem, De Gulden Leeuw and of course the Artemis, an old whaler.”
