Füllkrug and Ducksch shoot Werder in Bundesliga – HSV in relegation

S04 wins second division championship

FC Schalke 04 secured the Bundesliga 2 championship thanks to a 2-1 win at 1. FC Nürnberg and finished the season ahead of Werder Bremen – both clubs are promoted directly back to the Bundesliga a year after being relegated. Werder defeated Jahn Regensburg 2-0 and secured second place.

After being 1-0 down, HSV fought back a 3-2 win at Hansa Rostock and thus the ticket for the relegation against Hertha BSC. Despite beating SC Paderborn 3-0, SV Darmstadt only finished 4th, which HSV has held for the past three years.

In front of 41,000 spectators in the sold-out Weser Stadium, Niclas Füllkrug put coach Ole Werner’s team ahead in the tenth minute. Marvin Ducksch (51st) made everything clear after the break. After the final whistle, the joy on the Osterdeich knew no bounds.

The Bremen team thus crowned a remarkable race to catch up. Because the season had started extremely complicated. By the end of August, it was not clear which squad the then coach Markus Anfang could plan with because of transfer proceeds that could still be achieved. Then, in November of last year, the vaccination card affair at the beginning shook the club. The coach, who was only brought in in the summer, resigned because of a fake vaccination certificate. Coach Werner’s engagement brought about a turning point.

HSV wins in Rostock and is in relegation against Hertha BSC

Hamburger SV is in the relegation to the Bundesliga and meets Hertha BSC and coach Felix Magath there. HSV coach Tim Walter’s team won the last game of the season at FC Hansa Rostock 3-2 (0-1) on Sunday and thus maintained third place in the second division.

In front of 26,000 enthusiastic spectators in the sold-out Ostseestadion, right-back Nico Neidhart gave Rostock the lead (13th minute) after strong preliminary work by Ukrainian striker Danylo Sikan. HSV striker Robert Glatzel equalized with his 22nd goal of the season (50′) with a header. Captain Sebastian Schonlau (75th) and substitute Mikkel Kaufmann (85th) increased to 3:1. In injury time, Lukas Fröde reduced the lead to 2:3 (90+1).

Schalke 04 as champions in the Bundesliga – Terodde top scorer

FC Schalke 04 around top scorer Simon Terodde returns to the Bundesliga as second division champions. The Royal Blues defended their top spot on Sunday with a 2-1 (1-0) win at 1. FC Nürnberg. With a dream goal from more than 50 meters in the 15th minute, Rodrigo Zalazar delighted the numerous Schalke fans who had traveled with him among the 50,000 spectators. The offensive player fired in his own half and surprised keeper Carl Klaus, who rushed too far in front of his goal. Terodde broke the 30-goal mark in the 88th minute after Lukas Schleimer (86th) gave the “Club” hope for a late draw.

A week after the fourth promotion to the elite class, which was already arithmetically perfect, Terodde secured the top scorer by a wide margin. His 30 goals made him the most successful striker in the 2nd Bundesliga for the fourth time.
