Movement is coming in the Catalan radio waves. As EL PERIÓDICO has learned, Nicholas Pedrazzoli will go on to manage 18 stations of the Chain SER Catalonia. The Italian businessman is a good connoisseur of the Catalan audiovisual industry, since last year he bought the television network 8TV to the Godo Group.
Pedrazzoli, known as the Catalan Paolo Vasile, has extensive experience in the sector thanks to his company, OC 2022, SL. He was CEO of Catalan Channel and later founder of Tevecat. In July 2021, the CAC (Consell de l’Audiovisual de Catalunya) approved the transfer of 8TV and its private DTT multiplex to the Pedrazzoli company. With this operation, the company also inherited the spaces where Barça TV, BOM Cine and Fibracat TV were broadcasting at that time.
His intention was to turn 8TV into a Catalan (and private) alternative to the public TV-3 and reach quotas such as the 4.4% per month that the channel recorded in its best times, when Josep Cuní and Alfons Arús had daily programs on your grill. In the last stage in Godó’s hands, with programming based practically on movies and old TV-3 series, 8TV plummeted to a derisory 0.6% share.
387,000 daily listeners
With this new acquisition, the Italian businessman also embarks on the radio adventure with SER Catalunya, the Catalan-language disconnection of the leading radio station in Spain as a whole. According to the latest audience data released on April 19, corresponding to the first wave of the 2022 EGM, the SER has in Catalonia 387,000 daily listeners, which represents a growth of 7% compared to the previous wave. If the numbers are compared with those of a year ago, the rise is still a little more marked, 12%.
Among its star programs stands out ‘what you play‘, a space that combines sports and entertainment in the midday slot, with Sique Rodríguez and Lluís Flaquer in front. It is the most listened to program on SER Catalunya, with 70,000 daily listeners.
Another of its reference points is ‘Here, with Josep Cuní’, the station’s morning show. In its fourth year of broadcast through the frequencies of SER Catalunya, in the last EGM it reached 45,000 listeners, which is its best record since it began its journey on the airwaves.
However, despite its growth, the Cuní magazine is still far behind the two leaders of the morning slot in Catalan, RAC 1 and Catalunya Ràdio. While ‘The mon to RAC 1’ from Jordi Baste remains at the top of radio in Catalan with 756,000 faithful (which is its second best historical data), ‘The matí of Catalunya Ràdio’presented by Laura Roselhas added 61,000 listeners in a year and now has 466,000, according to the EGM of last April.
