As a precaution, the Berlin police have banned several anti-Israel demonstrations. A comment from BZ editor-in-chief Miriam Krekel.

For years politicians in Berlin have looked on as anti-Semitic hate demonstrations take place in our streets. Slogans against Jewish fellow citizens, aggressive (mainly) men wish the Jews death. As Interior Senator, Andreas Geisel tried to have these demos banned in court – and failed.

A new decision now shows that it is possible to take action against it: the police banned five rallies between May 13th and 15th. It has been established that “there is an immediate danger that the gatherings could result in inflammatory, anti-Semitic exclamations, the glorification of violence, the conveying of a readiness to use violence and, as a result, intimidation and acts of violence.”

Finally a clear signal that people of the Jewish faith should feel safe in the capital.

The employees of the central library in Tempelhof are also taking a stand for democracy and freedom. Several books about right-wing extremists were damaged there.

Apparently certain people wanted to suppress information. But they miscalculated quite a bit: The books are being replaced and the employees are planning several information events – of course about and against right-wing extremism.
