For the first time since 2002, the junior footballers at FC Schalke 04 are German junior champions.
In the final, Schalke beat the talented VfB Stuttgart 3-2 (0-0, 1-1) on penalties. It is the third B-Junior title for the Gelsenkirchen team.
The Swabians took the lead through captain Jan-Carlo Simic (54th). But ten minutes later, Tristan Osmani equalized in front of 3,150 spectators and Osmani again converted the decisive attempt in the penalty shoot-out.
Schalke then had the slightly better nerves from the point. While they only missed twice, the Stuttgart team missed three times.
