Companies in Germany want to raise prices

The Ifo Institute expects inflation to remain high as more and more companies in Germany want to raise their prices. It should be “over 7 percent in the coming months,” said Ifo economic chief Timo Wollmershäuser on Thursday. The basis is a survey by Munich economic researchers on the price expectations of companies.

The associated index rose to a record high of 62 points after seasonal adjustment in April. This means that the percentage of companies wanting to raise prices is 62 points higher than the percentage of those wanting to lower prices. Many companies want to increase prices, especially in wholesale, retail and industry. It was not asked how high the increases should be.

The main reason for the rising prices are higher costs for the procurement of energy, raw materials, other preliminary products and commodities, according to the Ifo. However, these do not always have a full impact on prices, as Wollmershäuser said. Only some of the companies can pass on the costs completely to the customers. (dpa)
