Parking away on Kantstrasse – protest letter to Berlin’s government

Many parking spaces are to disappear on the busy Kantstrasse. Between Joachimsthaler and Wilmersdorfer Strasse, the space is needed for bicycles, buses and delivery traffic. Residents protest against the plans at the Senate Chancellery.

“Do you want us residents away from the city center and only let shisha bars, betting shops and pubs thrive?” writes Dieter Zurstrasse (71) to the governing Franziska Giffey (43, SPD).

The TV journalist describes the already difficult situation: “Together with a thousand neighbors, we already don’t know where to put the cars.” B. in Münster, Aachen, Munich.

Traffic Senator Bettina Jarasch (53, Greens) could not answer how many parking spaces will be lost on Wednesday in the mobility committee. FDP traffic expert Felix Reifschneider (43) criticizes that road users are again being played off against each other.

His alternative suggestions: eliminating the median to create space for buses and bicycles and building an underground car park under the district court square.
