Teresa Palmer, who stars in The Twin, talks about the great feelings she went through in the filming in an interview with Iltalehti.
World famous Australian actor Teresa Palmer36, is the main star of the recent horror film The Twin. Taneli Mustonen Palmer, who was selected for the lead role in the Finnish horror film, says that the filming in the interview with Iltalehti was a rewarding but mentally difficult experience.
Great pressure
In the film, Palmer’s character and her husband lose another of their twin boys in a car accident. Gradually, the behavior of the surviving twin boy changes and it turns out that the boy thinks he is a dead brother. Identifying the grief of losing a child was very difficult for Palmer.
– I am a mother myself, and I have a total of five children when my bonus children are included. I was pregnant at the time of the filming, so I went through quite a few emotions, Palmer says.
For his role, the actor delved into materials in which parents recounted their shocking losses.
– I read a lot of magazines and articles about people who have lost their children to catch any of what grief might be like. It’s a kind of sadness, and even reading on the subject was really hard.

Palmer had his family involved in the filming, and for the sake of his own children, he did his best to break free from the gloomy thoughts when the cameras turned off.
– I had to be a mother to my own children in the evenings, and I thought that my work should not have affected it. However, I didn’t always succeed at it completely, because unfortunate thoughts fluttered between my subconscious and my sleep, Palmer says.
– I woke up in the middle of my dreams in fright and I had the feeling that something had happened to my own children. Fortunately, however, they were all well, and in hindsight, all those thoughts were just part of the process involved in embracing my character’s mind movements. Eventually, I felt very close to my character.
In retrospect, despite the challenges, Palmer has been pleased to have taken on the role in the film.
– Those were challenging months. But now, when I think about it, my character was an actor’s dream and I enjoyed being able to explore what the character is.
In support of the children’s actor
Alongside Palmer, the son of his character in The Twin plays a young actor promise, Tristan Ruggeri. When a veteran actor gets a child actor alongside him, the work requires even more dedication than usual. However, Palmer did not experience this as a burden in any way.
– Of course I was a real mother to Tristan. We giggled a lot there and we had our own stuff, Palmer says with a smile in his voice.
– It was important to me that he felt safe. And between us formed very naturally.

Since the actor’s family was involved in the filming, a suitable play club was also found for Tristan outside of the filming.
– My son only happens to be a year younger than Tristan, so the two of them became really good friends. There, they played video games together, chased each other, ran around and had fun. They spent a lot of time together and it was absolutely wonderful. It was nice to follow the hustle and bustle of the boys while there my own son was playing with the boy of my character.
Descriptions in Tallinn
Although the theme of the film is gloomy, there was also a lot of joy in the months spent filming. Although the story of the film is located in Finland, filming took place near Tallinn. The desired balance between everyday life in Estonia was brought by the atmosphere prevailing among the film crew.
– In the filming, the atmosphere was really relaxed, even though the theme of the film is so heavy. We had really fun. Half of our film crew was from Finland and half from Estonia. That is why many different languages were heard in the descriptions. Fortunately, everyone also spoke English, the actor laughs.

It was winter at the time of filming, and for the Australian family, the experience was in many ways exotic.
– Among other things, we got to ski and have all the fun in the snow. We enjoy the winter. It was so beautiful there!
But did the Australian world star learn to speak Finnish in the filming?
– At first I couldn’t tell the difference between Estonia and Finland, but gradually I started asking if it happened to be Finnish? At the end of the filming, I started to get a little idea of which language it was, but sometimes my guess went completely into the woods, Palmer admits.
Palmer was left with a good picture of the Finnish descriptions. When asked what the Finns are like, the answer comes from the pharmacy shelf.
– Finns are generous and warm. And really interesting and creative! There is such a special kind of optimism in them, and it was absolutely wonderful to be with them. And I was especially impressed with their creativity!
The Twin is currently being shown in cinemas all over Finland.
