The world-famous Ri Chun-hee was given a tour by none other than Kim Jong-un himself. Hand in hand, they walked through her new home. “It looks like a hotel,” she stammered when she saw her new home, located overlooking a river in an upscale neighborhood where the North Korean elite live.
The woman has been retired since 2012, but she reappears on screen during major events. With the luxury flat, Kim wants to thank her for her services. “She is a treasure of the land,” he said flatteringly.

atomic bombs
Ri Chun-hee, 79, is North Korea’s best-known news anchor, and for good reason. She is known for her extravagant way of presenting ‘the news’, which has sometimes caused quite a stir. For example, she jumped enthusiastically during the testing of atomic bombs, burst into tears when Kim’s grandfather died and in a threatening voice she announced threats against ‘enemies of North Korea’. She also dresses very conspicuously: always in colored dresses (usually in pink, blue or green).

prop agenda stunt
The present is a cunning prop agenda stunt by Kim. On Friday, North Korea celebrates ‘Day of the Sun’, the birthday of Kim Il-sung. He is the founder of the communist state and also the grandfather of the current leader Kim Jong-un.
Kim wants to give all apartments in the complex as a gift to people ‘who have contributed’ to building the country.
