Tonight The Passion can be seen on national TV from Doetinchem, but also in Enkhuizen they are working on their own amateur version of The Passion. Due to the corona, he was unable to continue this year, but rehearsals are already underway for 2023.
The leading roles in the musical about the Passion of Jesus are played by members of the youth choir ‘Reaching Hands’. Mayor of Zuijlen van Enkhuizen is the narrator. Someone is still being sought for the role of Jesus. “Anyone can sign up, but we would of course prefer someone from Enkhuizen,” says Jorien Schipper, who plays the role of Judas himself.
eye-catcher
It really should be a great spectacle and also in Enkhuizen atmosphere. The Passion in Enkuizen will be played on a boat in the harbor and the audience will be watching and listening on the quay. All this at the foot of Enkhuizen’s eye-catcher, the Drommedaris. “The intention is that Jesus stands on top of the Drommedaris with the resurrection and sings the closing song there,” says chairman of The Passion Enkhuizen Jacintha Floris.
But first, of course, someone has to be found who will play Jesus. “We already have two candidates, but we actually want to do another audition,” says Jorien Schipper. She does the PR for The Passion and is in the Reaching Hands choir herself and plays the part of Judas. Next to Jesus one of the most important roles. Judas is originally a man, why does Jorien play this role as a woman? “We liked having one of the men play lead roles by a woman. After all, it is 2022, then that should be possible.”
As in the rural Passion, in the Enkhuizen Passion, modern Dutch pop songs are used to tell the story. For example, Anouk Groot-Hudepohl sings the song Door de wind by Miss Montreal in the role of Maria.
“A wonderful song to sing” says Anouk, who is a mother herself and is expecting a second. “Singing when you’re a singer is wonderful. And no, if it becomes a boy I won’t call him Jesus” she says with a laugh.
The Passion Enkuizen will be performed in the harbor of Enkhuizen in 2023 around Easter.
