DEU SPENT
Type: animation, satire
By Zerocalcarewith the voices of Zerocalcare, Valerio Mastandrea. On Netflix
The animated world of Zerocalcare (the Roman cartoonist Michele Rech) has returned to be enriched with a new chapter. Two pennies it is the ideal completion of a trilogy that had seen its precursors with Tear along the edges And This world won’t make me bad.
Again, at the center of the story is the flow of thoughts and actions of a forty-year-old Roman, in this case involved in the management of a restaurant together with his friend Cinghiale. Two pennies is perhaps the most intimate and bitter of Zerocalcare’s animated works for Netflix; certainly, it represents a powerful generational cross-section, with millennials who will be able to find themselves in hopes, disenchantments, continuous and widespread references to the pop culture of reference.
Zerocalcare and Armadillo in “Due spicci”
If in previous works, society and a certain type of militancy seemed to strongly characterize the protagonist’s universe, here we seem to be witnessing a retreata sort of reflux on private problems and concrete management of everyday life.
Alongside Zerocalcare, in his wanderings through the Roman suburbs far from the noise, there is the trusty Armadillo, a narrative device of a conscience as cumbersome as it is loving.
For those who want to take stock of a generation without discounts or hypocrisy.
